Druci was attached as a cavalry scout to a detachment of roadwardens  entering the borderlands, one evening during a storm the platoon was attacked by surprise while making camp. Separated from the rest of his platoon re mounted his horse and fled hell bent for leather into the woods. He escaped the original onslaught , and upon returning the next day he found the camp looted and in ruins, with everything gone from Corpses down to the tent pegs. only shredded bits of cloth , smouldering campfires , and greasy , bloody smears in the grass marked the passage of his unit. Finding a sizable wooden stick to use as a club he rides on fearing to be labeled a deserter or worse onto the next town or city.
