The stars are right, and I find myself thinking about Carcosa… but I’m not sure I’ll actually be able to organize a group to embark on a offbeat, sword & planet mythos hexcrawl in the near future, so I’d love to hear from those of you who have run it, or, like me, hope to get to it “someday!” Some opening thoughts for possible discussion:
- The 13 “Crayola” Men: I think I’d like to keep it simple and run-as-written with the basic Green and Purple Men, etc., but I’m also tempted to give it a dash of He-Man and convert the various folks into Beast Men, Rock People, Avians, Insectiods, etc. Have any experience or theories when it comes to modifying the various color people, and perhaps introducing some up-front mechanical differences for players (i.e., four arms, tough hide, etc)?
- The Eponymous Carcosa: I kind of like that one of the setting’s major sites is basically undescribed “officially” in the book. What was your approach to it? A sci-fi Viriconium? A slumbering alien ruin megadungeon? Did your players visit a cosmopolitan, warped Emerald City, run by Hastur instead of a Kansas Huckster, or was it more Mountains of Madness style, with Shoggoths lurking beneath skeletal, long-dead towers?
- Table Tales: Did your players get up to any memorable mischief? Did anyone commit to the bleak path of ritual sorcery, or did you introduce the more conventional Vancian system into the setting? Experience with the presented alternate dice conventions? Where and how did you start the players during your first session? Basically, I'd just love to hear how you and your group made Carcosa into your setting.
